About balloons
So, I would be lying if I told you that nothing
post worthy has happened lately. For one, I have applied for a job that would
take me out of San Diego. Those of you that know me, also know that I can't post
publicly about my professional life. What I can tell you, is that if I get it,
it will be a summer position, with the possibility of a full time one. Now at
this point, I am sure you are wondering about the title of the post. The second
post worthy topic is about my brother's baby shower. It took place yesterday and
he (more like his baby) made out like an F-ing bandit. But when I was there, my
cousin's daughter and her little play friend for the day, managed to get their
hands on some yellow helium balloons. I realized in about 5 minutes what a cruel
fate these balloons have, especially when in the hands of two year olds. Now it
only took the other little girl about 30 seconds to let her balloon go outside,
only to immediately regret her irreversible decision. At this point her
Grandmother came over and tried to save the situation by waving "bye-bye" to the
balloon as if it were leaving for some adventurous transcontinental trip. But
the little girl was not fooled, she knew full well that the balloon's fate lay
twisted in a bush next to the freeway. My cousin then tried to get Caralina to
give the other little girl her balloon. . . fat chance. Karma immediately
rewarded her selfishness by popping her balloon in a nearby tree. I realized at
that moment the terrible concepts children grapple with when dealing with
something as simple as a balloon. Just when I feel all grown up, I find myself
humbled by memories of helium balloons lost, saying goodbye to the rapidly
shrinking blob of color. Don't really have any point to this all, just found it
fascinating how such difficult ideas can be seen in the simple everyday actions
of children.
